Psychological Foundations Lab

Welcome to the Psychological Foundations Lab in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University. In our lab, we use conceptual, evolutionary, and empirical forms of analysis in our research program; our main current focus is on the use of evolutionary theory in psychology and the history and philosophy of psychology.

Our evolutionary work has addressed issues such as innateness, the strengths and limitations of evolutionary psychology, and evolutionary explanation in general; our conceptual work has addressed issues such as the use of developmental theory in robotics, the relation between evolution and development, and developmental methodology.

Our empirical work sometimes aims to address these foundational issues through e.g., archival methods, but can also be curiosity driven. For example, recent studies have investigated topics such the development of communication and the relation between personal epistemology and social cognitive development.
